Nintendo Wii Review

The all new Nintendo Wii, introduced in the fall of 2006, has become a great success in the game box battle competing with Sony's Playstation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360. So what makes Wii so appealing, that they are sold out in stores within hours of being stocked. Compared to the other next generation game consoles the graphics are nothing to get exited about. What Wii has managed to do, is get people off the couch to have some fun. The new system is easy for all age groups to play from the 5 year old child to the grandmother. The other thing so appealing about the Wii is the price is about half that of the Playstation 3 or the Xbox 360. The size is also about half that of it's competitors, and with the ease of setting up it is much more portable. The popularity of the new system has caused sales to outpace supplies. The easiest way to buy a Wii is online. You can always find a vendor selling new units on Ebay.

The most innovative part of the system is the TV remote looking controller. Instead of the traditional two-handed device, the Wii's wireless controller is a rectangular device with an array of sensors, wireless transmitters, and receivers that communicate with the base station through a sensor bar. Game designers love finding new uses for the Wii Remote. In a tennis game, it becomes a racket you swing with your arm. In a driving game, it becomes a steering wheel. The possibilities are endless! The Wii Remote also packs a speaker, rumble feature, and external extension connector for other input devices, like the classic controller or the new Nunchuk with the same sensor technology.

What really makes a game system popular is the games exclusive to the system. The included game Wii Sports is an addictive tech demo that provides for tons of single and multi player fun. Tennis, golf, and baseball work just like one would expect, and when you plug in the Nunchuk the boxing mini game can really help you work up a sweat. For the more traditional hit games Nintendo has upgraded Super Mario Brothers with Super Mario Galaxy and the popular Legends of Zelda with the release of Twilight Princess. New games like Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party and Guitar Hero III has revolutionized the way games are played. Nintendo has also come out with the new Wii Zapper to use with games like Crossbow Training and Medal of Honor: Heros 2. Just slide the remote into the barrel and the Nunchuk in the rear and you are ready for any shooter game.

The Wii would not be ranked with the next generation of gaming consoles without an online component. Wii comes standard with Wi-Fi capabilities, which makes it simple to connect to a home wireless network. Once online you start with the Wii channels which include Shop, Weather, News, Mii and more. The Mii channel is where you can create 3D avatars that can interact with other Miis all over the world. In specific games, such as the included Wii Sports, your created Mii can be the main character. Up to ten Miis can be stored on a controller, so you'll be able to bring your characters to a friend's house without needing any sort of memory card. The Channel interface is intuitive and shows how even the most basic tasks can be revitalized thanks to the Wiimote.

Nintendo made the Wii a great success by making it simple and fun for everyone at an affordable price. It is also more popular in other countries. It may be hard to get, but it is well worth the effort.

Using Technology to Help Your Workout

Technology has been pushing its way into the fitness market for the past couple years. There are several gadgets that make working out more fun, and several that allow you to track progress during your workout. These gadgets range from the iPod to heart rate monitors. Video games are also being developed to make workouts more fun, both for children and adults. Following are several gadgets that you can either find on the market now, or are being developed for use in the next couple of years.

Progio Training Companion

The Progio Training Companion is a small hand-held machine that gives complete instructions for personal workout programs. These workouts have detailed instructions to provide a safe and satisfying workout. You can choose fitness, rehabilitation and sport-specific workouts that are designed by fitness experts to meet specific needs and workout goals. The Progio tracks your results, monitors your heart rate and helps to keep you motivated throughout each workout.

Workout programs from fitness sites like HyperStrike can also be downloaded to the Progio Training Companion as well as to your iTouch, iPhone, Windows Mobile device and PDA. Working out has never been so convenient!

Nike + iPod Sport Kit

Apple and Nike teamed up a couple of years ago to bring a unique sport kit to the market. This sport kit has a sensor in the Nike shoe that records information and transfers it to an iPod nano. The sensor tracks distance, time, pace, and calories burned. It syncs to the iPod, and you can track your progress through your workout as well and track it on your computer; when the iPod syncs with your computer, the information is transferred so you can track your progress over time. You can even program your iPod to give you audible progress updates in your earphones. If you want to know when you've run two miles, you can program your iPod to give you an audible update when that happens. This sport kit is perfect for anyone who wants to track their workout statistics and monitor them.

Wii Fit

The Nintendo Wii swept the market when it arrived a few years ago. Due to its interactive and completely physical style, many people have been using it for a workout. Nintendo is currently developing Wii Fit, which is an exercise program that you can complete in the privacy of your home and have fun doing it! Wii Fit will include a balance board that you stand on to perform workouts; games such as aerobics, yoga, muscle stretches, and various sports will be available. This program is perfect for those who already own the Wii; since the Wii game console is in such high demand, this can be a hard item to track down.

Dance Dance Revolution

This is another video game that has taken the market by storm as far as getting a great workout. This game has a dance pad that you step on, guided by the television screen. Many people use this as exercise, and the newer games have ways to track your calories burned as well as track your progress over time. Just recently, this game has been introduced in several schools for use by children in gym class. This game is a great way to have some fun while working out!

Various Watches

There are many watches on the market which contain gadgets such as a heart rate monitor, pedometer, and body fat calculator. These gadgets are also available individually, but many watch makers like Timex have integrated all three of these into one easy-to-use device. Most of these watches will also track distance and time, making one gadget handy and extremely useful when you are working out.

You can definitely expect the above gadgets to continue to be improved upon as technology continues to develop and grow. There seems to be more of a push for gadgets that can track most statistics throughout your workout so you can make the most of your time and know the details of your workout. With those details, it is much easier achieve your end result, whether it is that 26 mile marathon or just losing a few pounds.

Fastest Way to Lose Weight - I Hate the Treadmill!

So you've done your research on the fastest way to lose weight (because of course you want the weight off ASAP), you've started a new eating plan and you are doing great with your diet. Now you just need to add a cardio workout to your routine, but the only piece of home equipment you have room for in your home is that tedious and infamous treadmill, and you hate it! It's just so boring even with a radio or TV.

Does this scenario sound familiar? Don't worry, you are definitely not alone. Many others have been in yours shoes (including me) and have gone through the same thing, just needing some cardio to complete a daily workout, but finding running or even walking on the treadmill just insanely boring almost to the point of being intolerable.

So what can you do for your workout that doesn't seem like torture? Here are a few ideas:

One thing that may help is to break up your routine into 15-minute sessions. Run or walk for 15 minutes, then get off and do some crunches or stretching, then back on the treadmill for another 15-minute session. You can also try listening to an audio book instead of the radio or TV. I actually use this and it really helps the time to fly by. Still seems like torture but not quite as bad and doesn't seem to last as long. Download an unabridged book to your iPod and you'll have 12 to 15 hours or so of company for your workout. Alternatively, you can read a book while walking. Some treadmills come with a place to set your book and hold it in place, but otherwise you can just rig it up yourself. I've used this method before but it's just easier nowadays to download the book and listen to it. But here is a tip to hold the book open if you go with that method - just use a big hair clip.

For some people, you just need a different workout entirely. If you have a local YMCA you can head over there for a workout every other day or so and add some variation to your routine with the many machines they have. It should also help to have some company. Bring a friend if you can, as that really helps the time go by faster.

Swimming is another way you can get in your cardio. If you don't have a pool, the YMCA has this available as well.

Biking is another great alternative. But I recommend the real thing, and not the stationary bikes because I find those just as boring if not worse than the treadmills. If you have some bike trails around where you live, a bike is a great investment in your quest on how to lose weight quick because it will really burn through the calories fast. If you happen to live in an area where there are a lot of hills, that's even better. If you do think you would like the stationary bike, you can buy a device that allows your regular bike to be used in the house. I actually would prefer this rather than use those exercise bikes that have your arms going back and forth which makes no sense to me. Who rides a bike like that?

There are a number of video games out now to help you lose weight, and those are really great for cardio. There is Dance Revolution, and Wii has a new fitness "game," and there are many others available so it should be no problem to find one that will grab your interest.

Dancing is another great way to get your daily workout in and lose weight. If you are into country music, try some line dancing. Most cities have at least one country bar with a dance floor that has line dancing lessons on certain nights of the week. It's great exercise, lots of fun, and a super way to shed some pounds fast. If country is not your thing, take some ballroom dancing lessons. With all the dance programs on TV lately this has become very popular so you should be able to easily find a place to take some lessons. Great fun.

Weight Loss for Teens: a Teen Weight Loss Success Story

Teens can get into a variety of fun activities in order to lose weight. With overweight teens getting increasingly more common nowadays, finding more enjoyable ways of getting rid of excess weight.

Unique ways may appeal to more teenagers as they not only want to look at losing weight as something that they have to do instead of being something that they really want to do. Once they enjoy doing it, they have an increased likelihood of keeping it up and become more successful in trying to lose weight.

But how can you make losing weight more fun? Well, exciting activities that appeal to the teenager will likely do it. There is a story of a certain teenage girl who lost weight simply by playing a video game. Now, what can be more exciting and fun than that? Losing weight while playing a video game? This is some story that is worth listening to.

This typical teenage girl makes use of her time at the arcade to lose weight. She started playing a popular video game called "Dance Dance Revolution (DDR)" at the age of 17. At that time, she was a senior in high school and weighed about 235 lbs, pretty overweight for a teenage girl. But after four and a half years of playing the said video game, she now weigh about 140 lbs.

She couldn't even imagine just how much a video game would come to affect her health and weight concerns with positive results. The said video game even helped her grow to be a better and more self-confident teen. Before discovering the video game, she was a rather inactive person not used to go about doing such activities.

Although she was active as a member in different bands, orchestras, drama, and had already played video games, she didn't regularly get out for exercise. She became really unhappy when she realized that she was at an unhealthy weight. Just as what happens with most obese people, she started losing hope that she will ever be a normal person again when faced with the fact that she had so much weight to lose. The Internet became a form of escapism so that she didn't have to face people in person because of her overweight condition.

In college, she became increasingly unhappy being in a new environment and her weight continued to yo-yo, usually staying at around 235 lbs. Sometime around October of 2002, a fun new game version of a game called DDR USA was released that contained a ton of new songs to dance to. She tried the game out and soon became addicted to the video game with a high activity rate. Not long after, she began frequenting the video arcade almost everyday playing the video game for hours and hours.

At one point, she came to discover a website which had a Bulletin Board where people would meet online and talk about DDR and music games and she quickly became friends with the regulars. She was able to get to know friends who were able to motivate her to play more frequently and for hours at a time. It was during around this time she began losing most of her weight.

In her first six months of playing, she was able to lose 45 lbs with no change in her diet whatsoever. Once she discovered that she can find herself at a more comfortable weight again, she decided to make healthy changes in her life such as following a more healthy diet. She became more conscious of what she ate and as a result, lost an additional 20 lbs.

Playing the game regularly and coupled with a healthy diet has allowed her to maintain a healthier weight than she ever thought possible. All because she was able to enjoy losing weight by playing a video game that changed her life.

Solving Your Wii Sync Problems

Ok, let's be honest, why do we buy a Nintendo Wii?

We didn't buy it for shooters, because or playing DVDs, because then we would have bought an Xbox 360.

We didn't buy it because we wanted a powerhouse in terms of processing power and graphics, because then we would have bough a Play station 3.

I might even say that we didn't even buy it for the Mario and Zelda series. Sure, they are great games, but there are other platform and action RPGs in the other consoles as well.

No, the reason why we bought the Wii is motion. Swinging a bat, bowling, brandishing a sword, aiming your crosshair at an enemy, you name it. Mimicking the movement is much more natural and satisfying than pressing a button. That's also the reason why games like Dance Dance Revolution have had so much success (try playing Dance Dance Revolution with a normal control, see how fun it is).

The Wii remote functions with two small flat pieces of silicon that rest against silicon springs, which keep them in place. When you move the Wii remote around, the centrifuge weight of these silicon pieces is measured, registered and translated to videogame input.

Wii remotes have to be synchronized with the console in order to transmit information to them. This process is known as sync, but I'm sure you knew that. The Wii remote that comes with your console is already synchronized; however, new Wii remotes will have to be synchronized in order to use them with your console.

Likewise, if you want to use your Wii remote with another Wii console, let's say, your friend's, you will need to sync them with that console as well.

However, sometimes, Wii sync problems arise. You might find that after following the instructions, your controls are not synchronized. Or only some of them are. Another source of Wii sync problems is the fact that there are two types of synchronization, so you might have used the wrong one for the situation.

Yet another Wii sync problem is that Wii remotes that have been synchronized don't work anymore. That is, only the LED lights flash and then stop working.

Get Fit the Fun Way

The effort and stress involved in most conventional workouts discourage people from getting fit. Here are a few activities which offer you the opportunity to lose some weight while having fun.

Walking

Walking can be a very fun way to reduce weight and stay fit. In fact, experts say that walking 10,000 steps daily can help keep you healthy. Some people think that walking only exercises your feet and legs. However, you should know that walking actually helps improve your cardiovascular system, building up blood vessels so you have more oxygen stored in your blood. This helps increase your endurance and helps you keep your energy up after a long day.

When you take a walk, remember to enjoy the journey. Some people use treadmills, but that would actually be pretty boring and would seem like too much work to be worth it. When you take a real walk or even a jog, however, you'll get to enjoy observing what's going on around you. You might even manage to forget that you are exercising.

Video Games

Oh yes, there are actually video games that can help you stay fit and active. This equals to a lot of fun and a lot of calories lost. One of the most popular active video games is DDR or Dance Dance Revolution. This video game involves you stepping on a dance pad in time to instructions on the screen. Just a few minutes on DDR will get your heart pounding, your sweat pouring and your face smiling.

Another option would be the ParaParaParadise dance machine. This game is actually based on a popular dancing style in Japan called "Parapara". Although the traditional modes have specific steps to follow in order to be considered a legitimate score, the game also offers a "freestyle mode" which allows you to be more creative and be more active. Offering different difficulties accompanied by energizing music, you'll never realize you are actually exercising on this machine. A version is also available for use with Sony's eye-toy.

The Wii is the latest to come out with active video games. Using motion-sensor controllers, a gamer will actually have to move in order to play the games. You need to punch when playing boxing games, you need to swing the controller in order to wield your sword and slay the dragon.

The active video game also helps boost morale by making you feel as if you have accomplished something. There are high scores to beat, after all.

Martial Arts

Forget repetitive and seemingly-senseless movements. What discourages people from doing aerobics or other types of traditional exercise is that they can be pretty boring and actually only burn a few calories per hour.

Martial Arts, on the other hand, can help you burn as much as 1000 calories an hour! Now that is some exercise.

In Martial Arts, your whole body will stay active -this means you will be able to tone and shape every muscle in your body. What's more, this workout is far cry from being boring. You get to learn a new skill, practice it against opponents and generally focus on something other than how much weight you're supposed to be losing.

What's great about martial arts is that every move has its purpose. Whether it's knocking out an enemy or regenerating life energy, martial arts is something where all movements count. Did you know that people who begin practicing Tai-Chi during their retirement years can actually extend their active life?

Dance

Dancing is another activity where you can get fit without actually thinking about exercise. It allows you to let lose, get those muscles working and that blood pounding. Dancing is all about having fun and feeling good about your body and your moves. It's all about self expression and communication without words. Real exertion in dance can burn off as much calories as martial arts!

Dancing allows you to learn a skill and improve your overall personality. It allows you to become more aware of what you can do as a person. Dance also helps relieve stress and produce endorphins for that natural high.

Actually, various types of workouts are based on dance movements. Although these workouts pretty much focus on getting the same results as your regular exercise routine, the pacing and rhythm involved makes the exercise fun and more vigorous.

Swimming

Swimming is another activity that exercises the whole body. If you live near the beach or at least have a pool nearby, you should take advantage of the exercise opportunity. Of course, in order to keep fit with swimming, you'll need to actually move. Just lounging about in the pool will not help sculpt your body.

What's great about this activity is all the resistance you have to contend with. The water, despite supporting your buoyant body, actually causes every movement to require extra exertion. It also cools off your body. This equals to a great intense yet comfortable workout.

Why should you stress yourself when you can relax and get fit at the same time?

Texans Find Qigong as a Response to the Obesity Epidemic

It wasn't long ago that workout programs were limited to variations on the basics: jogging, hiking, team sports, like basketball or soccer, and, if one was lucky enough to have a home or fitness club swimming pool, a few good laps. Even exercise machines tended to only simulate the same activities. Treadmills, stair climbers, stationary bikes, and elliptical trainers were a bit like the hamster-wheel version of trying to enjoy the great outdoors, indoors.

The emphasis was on discipline, and going as long and as hard as a thumping heart would allow. Pushing to utter exhaustion and stumbling out with sweat-soaked clothes were good signs. But times, they are a'changin', and, with a ballooning obesity epidemic on the nation's hands, contributing, in part, to a growing health insurance crisis, this can only mean good things to come. Texas' obesity rate alone is 27%, 3 percentage points higher than the national average.

This is not to say that a hard, sweaty workout doesn't have its place. Particularly for the young and joint-healthy, strenuous exercise sessions can show incredible benefits. But, in the past fifteen years, new methods of research have demonstrated that increased endurance and decreased risk of certain diseases such as atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and diabetes and improved muscle strength, loss of fat content, lower stress levels, and better overall health can be achieved through practices like qigong, interval training, yoga, and physically-based, interactive video games, such as Dance Dance Revolution.

Texas, too, is realizing this need for varied exercise options, and cities like Dallas and Austin nourish thriving yoga studios, pilates classes, and martial arts academies.

These may all seem like familiar options to the young-adult Texas crowd, but, a little more than a decade ago, qigong master Chunyi Lin couldn't attract a half dozen students. Now, he runs his own center in Minnesota, travels across the country conducting workshops, and teaches packed classes of sixty or more at a time. Qigong [has been] growing like crazy in the United States in the past few years. People want to be more proactive with their health care.

Americans are turning less and less to their individual health insurance companies to hand them laboratory prescriptions, and more and more to taking control of their own health through preventative care, including stress-reduction techniques.

In addition to cardiovascular fitness, the ever-increasing health-conscious population is seeking longevity, reduced stress, and overall mental and physical improvements. Let's face it: Americans are stressed out. Folks in Texas, and the rest of the nation's populace, are starting to realize that stress alone is causing a good portion of one's mental and physical issues.

Qigong, a broad term for several types of energy-based practices, is growing as at least a partial solution to this problem. Through the use of slow, measured movements and deep breathing, this ancient Chinese physical art has shown evidence of reducing pain and inflammation, increasing focus and concentration, improving immunity, lowering stress levels, and providing for better overall well-being. Yoga, an even more popular practice, offers a range of workouts from sweat-inducing, muscle-cramping regimens, to measured, deep-breathing sessions suitable for all ages.

Interval training is also hitting the market again. After a brief stint of popularity in the 90's, the exercise program seemed to fade, kept alive by cloistered professional athletes and specialized fitness chains, like Curves. Interval training alternates between short bursts of high-intensity activity, and slower, lower-energy stints. After short sessions of interval bike training spread over two weeks, a 2005 double-blind study found that 75% of its subjects increased their endurance by 100%.

Another study this year found that, after two weeks of similar training (which entailed seven interval workouts), the practice improved the cardio function of its participants by 13% and their ability to burn fat by 36%. The results were similar for all fitness levels - from the borderline sedentary to the dedicated athletes - according to Talanian, lead author of the study and exercise scientist at Ontario's University of Guelph. That means almost anyone can do it and should expect to experience tangible results within weeks.

Interval training seems to work so well, in part, because high-intensity bursts recruit new muscle fibers, while low-intensity periods allow those muscles to rid themselves of waste products created during the workout. Contrary to popular beliefs as of a decade ago, this method actually increases endurance by a greater percentage than steady-paced, high-intensity exercise sessions. Such relatively quick, tangible results, for most exercisers, keeps them working out.

Consistent workouts not only mean feeling and looking better, but also increased immune function, which, in the long run, translates to fewer incidences of disease. Exercisers aren't the only ones who love it; health insurance companies do, too.

"Any form of exercise that recruits new muscle fibers is going to enhance the body's ability to metabolize carbohydrates and fat," said Ed Coyle, director of the human performance laboratory at the University of Texas, Austin.

The only real guidelines? Higher-energy bursts should elevate heart rate to 80 to 85% of optimal performance, and the lower-energy periods should never last long enough to decrease heart rate to resting levels. Interval trainers should always warm up first, take 24- hours between sessions to give the body time to recover, and never attempt the program if over the age of 60, or at risk for heart attack, stroke, or other cardiovascular ailments without the consent of a qualified physician.

Technological trends cannot be ignored, either. As usual, children are leading the way. Dance Dance Revolution, an interactive Japanese video game that hit the Asian market about ten years ago, is now recognized as such a popular, effective, and entertaining workout, that more than 1,500 American schools are expected to integrate it into their curriculum by 2010, in the face of a growing obesity epidemic.

Recent studies in Houston and Dallas revealed alarming obesity trends in children under 18, and Texas schools are now considering revamping their physical education programs in response. Dance Dance Revolution may be an intelligent option: utilizing a foot touch pad and on-screen cues, participants learn increasingly complicated, progressively fast-paced dance moves. The game can be played individually, or in competition, which appeals to a broader audience. One need not be particularly athletic, nor competitive, to participate; the only requirement being the willingness and ability to move on cue.

"I'll tell you one thing: they don't run in here like that for basketball," said Bill Hines, a physical education teacher in Morgantown, West Virginia, where the game was integrated.

So maybe workouts don't have to be so much work. Through variety and open-mindedness, anything that gets a body moving, a heart rate up, or stress levels down, is worth a shot. And, it can even be a rewarding cultural experience. Qigong, martial arts like aikido and jujitsu, and ashtanga yoga classes can elevate more than just fitness awareness levels. Who knows, you may even get a discount on that health insurance premium over time. And don't worry, pronunciation guides usually come with the class.

How you treat your body when you're young will certainly affect your health as you age, and eventually your wallet.

Playstation 2 Console (new Smaller Model)

The new smaller version of the PlayStation 2 gaming console (Abbreviated as PS2) matches the size of a hardcover book that makes it easier to carry around and play games anytime, anywhere. The console has an integrated Ethernet port for network gaming. The volume of the new smaller model of PS2 has been reduced by about 75% while its thickness has been trimmed down to 2.8 cm as compared to 7.8 cm in its previous model. The unit's weight has also been halved.

The overhauled internal design of the unit incorporates the power supply into the console itself, thus reducing its weight considerably. The unit is Sony's second video gaming console under the PlayStation series. It is a successor of PlayStation and the predecessor of the PlayStation 3. The console inherits the basic functions of the PlayStation. Due to its thinner profile, the console does not contain a 3.5" expansion bay and therefore does not support the internal hard disk drive.

The PS2 is part of the sixth generation era. The unit has a large collection of widely acclaimed games like Grand Theft Auto series, Metal Gear Solid 3, Gran Turismo 4, the Sly Cooper trilogy, Champions: Return to Arms, and Shadow of the Colossus. Horror games available on the console include Silent Hill, Forbidden Siren, Project Zero and Resident Evil. The console also features music games like Sing Star, Dance Revolution and the guitar controller-based Guitar Hero series.

The sheer enjoyment one gets from the PS2 makes it an essential purchase. The console's hardware can read both CDs and DVDs and is backward compatible with PlayStation games. The unit also supports PlayStation memory cards and controllers. There is also support for the internal PlayStation 2 HDD. The device is equipped with DVD-playback functionality, USB support and IEEE 1394 expansion ports.

Losing Weight with DDR

The idea of losing weight with DDR is not new, but if you have not heard of the DDR diet, allow me to introduce you. DDR stands for Dance Dance Revolution, which is an Asian video game that took off in popularity several years back. The game requires the playing to dance on a mat, which acts as the game control, along with steps to song. There are several versions of the game. Each version includes many songs and difficulty levels, which can adjust the game for to the level of both a beginner and pro DDR gamer.

One of the great benefits of DDR, over traditional video games, is that it requires the player to get up and move. In order to place the game, you must stand up and dance around the floor. Most advance play provides a significant work out. A beginner trying to play the game at an advanced level will quickly get out of breath.

The game is now being used by many to lose weight. There have been several success stories of people losing significant weight from playing this game regularly. It provides an easy opportunity for video game lovers, who need to drop a few pounds, to work out from their living room.

Of course, like all work out methods, DDR work out has been criticized as being less effective as traditional workouts. This is true. If you get out of the house and jog or go to the gym and lift weights, you are likely to lose weight faster. The strength of the DDR workout is that it helps prevent failure.

Many people give up on work out programs before they can find success. People quit for various reasons, but DDR can help combat them. For those who are nervous about working out in public, due to insecurities, DDR allows you to work out from the privacy of your own home. Some people use the excuse that gyms cost money. DDR can be purchased on the Playstation 2 for cheap. Lastly, many people lose motivation. DDR allows you to feel like you are playing a game, not like you are doing work. In addition, the various songs and skill level provide a wide range of diversity. You can constantly mix up your work out. Once you get bored, you simply by a new DDR game, which include a completely new set of songs and challenges.

Getting started with DDR is simple. All it requires is a game system. You can get many of the systems for DDR used, which will save a lot of money. Beyond that, you just need to buy your first game and DDR mat.

So if you love video games, and need to lose weight, take the time to consider playing DDR. You can enjoy yourself while working out and do it from your living room.

Origin of the Bingo Games

Bingo is one of the oldest and the most commonly known games in the world. The game is also known as 'Housie' in major parts of Australia and New Zealand and dates back to as old as 16th century. However, the game ibs believed to have originated in Italy as a state run lottery game that funded the nation's coffers, thus making Italy the birth place of Bingo.

The popularity of the bingo game spread over to the other parts of Europe where it was known differently. In Germany interestingly was used as an educational tool to teach math and multiplications. This remains an important purpose of the game even today. It was only when the game hit the shores of US that it soared to the popularity that it enjoys today. The game of bingo was used in America to raise funds for charity and it was played using beans. This game was soon christened as 'Beano' which is a version of 'Bean-Go' that the Americans would call out.

The commercial success of the game was detected by a business man from New York, who assigned Carl Leffler, a popular mathematician to design the number combinations for the game. Leffler designed 6000 different cards that rumored to have made him quite insane. After traveling far and wide, it was in the 1960's that it finally arrived to Britain. Here it grew as a popular game to pass time and it was Eric Morley who realized that the game could be used to attract the public back to drama theatres and dance halls that had gone empty with the raise of television.

Morley took advantage of the relaxation of the laws in Britain to further popularize the game of Bingo. However, bingo never suffered the same outlook as the other gambling games; it was always viewed as sociable and enjoyable. The bingo craze was initiated by Marley's company Mecca and it has reached where it is today. The game of bingo was soon being played widely and its growing demands lead to the introduction of the bingo games online. This lead to the revolution of the bingo games as it could reach a vast number of players and was also convenient. Thus, the online bingo has arrived and it gained fame like no other game played today.

Are there Medical Benefits to Video Games?

Video games have always been given a modest nod of tolerance by parents who struggle to see the benefits of learning how to crash a car into a tree at 120 miles per hour. But new evidence is proving that video games have a new respect in the medical field. And if you suffer from chronic pain, you soon may be knocking on your children's door asking, "can you show me how that controller-thingy works?"

One of the best benefits is that there are now video games like Dance Dance Revolution that can help you get physically fit. If you've been to a movie theater or mall lately, you may have noticed the 3-foot square platform with an arrow on each side of the square pointing up, down, left and right. The player may appear as though they have joined the toddlers in a dance along with The Wiggles, but the game does take skill. The player faces a video screen that has arrows scrolling upward to the beat of a song, and the player steps on the correlating arrow. Tempted to try it but not in a public place? The home version costs about $80 for the game and plastic dance pad and it includes a "workout mode" that actually will track how many calories you are burning. Another study has just been released about the ability for video games to actually reduce chronic pain. A group of students from Wheeling Jesuit University reported from their study that playing sports and fighting video games produces a dramatic level of pain distraction. The students presented the results of the study, "Effects of Video Game Play Types on Pain Threshold and Tolerance," during the University's Seventh Annual Student Research and Scholarship Symposium, April 4, 2006. The study examined 6 genre types (action, puzzle, arcade, fighting, sport, and boxing). Sports games and fighting games were able to "produce a dramatic level of pain distraction." Some are suggestion that physicians install more video game consoles in their waiting rooms to lower the tension of upcoming surgical procedures. That seems fair, since many surgeons are now requesting Ipod players in their surgical rooms.

The video game may not help just the patient either! If you must have surgery, you should be glad to hear that your doctor actually spends some down time playing video games. Surgeons who play video games three hours a week have 27 percent fewer errors and accomplish tasks 27 percent faster, claims Dr. James Rosser Jr., a top surgeon and director of the Advanced Medical Technologies Institute at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. Rosser and his colleagues recently brought together surgeons, movie makers, and video game designers to discuss ways that better tools to train physicians can be developed. Players are hooked up with heart-rate and skin-conduction monitors on their fingers and they must calm their body and mind to make the game respond.

All good news, but don't be surprised if your teenagers here about this news soon too. When they ask for the next PlayStation sports game and you say no, he may just respond with, "but it's good for my health and I may even be training to be a surgeon!"

Music Video Games Crank Up Volume

Music genre games "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band" are bona-fide smash hits, entering the rarefied air once reserved for only the elite first-person shooters, "Mario" games or sports titles. And success breeds imitation.

Music games seemed to be everywhere at this week's E3 video game trade show and it wasn't just Activision Blizzard Inc showing off its upcoming "Guitar Hero: World Tour" or MTV Games, a unit of Viacom Inc, providing a sneak peek at "Rock Band 2." Both are due out later this year.

Nintendo Co Ltd debuted "Wii Music," a game that lets you simulate playing over 60 different instruments, while Konami Corp and Microsoft Corp also showed off new music games of their own on the horizon.

"Music has really become the killer application," said Don Mattrick, a Microsoft senior vice president, who runs the company's Xbox business.

Music genre games accounted for 16 percent of U.S. video game software sales in 2007 and comprised a staggering 44 percent of last year's software sales growth, according to research from investment bank UBS Securities.

Most suppliers are attempting to pass the costs on directly to consumers while keeping retail margins steady, so many are raising the actual minimum advertised price (MAP) on select products.

Subwoofers are hardest hit, as they are laden with metal, and they are heavy and expensive to ship. Speakers also use oil-based material in their driver cones. Many of the companies raising prices at present are speaker and amplifier brands.

The genre evolved out of the once popular rhythm game genre. In rhythm games like Konami's "Dance Dance Revolution," players score points by stepping on a touch sensitive pad in time with generic music.

In music games, the touch sensitive pad was replaced with a toy musical instrument and the generic songs were replaced with recognizable rock hits, giving players the simulated experience of playing real instruments.

Maintaining A Healthy Body And A Healthy Gaming Addiction

For most of us gamers, staying active is a distraction from the real important task - gaming. It can be really hard to motivate yourself to put down that controller and get moving. That's why I've come up with 4 ways to add a dash of fitness to your gaming routine. Keep reading to learn how.

1. Opt for an "active" game. Almost every gaming console offers some type of active game - whether it's wailing on a virtual guitar, following a series of intricate dance steps in a dance revolution, playing tennis with an imaginary racket, or singing your heart out at karaoke. So, if you're looking to add a mini-workout to your gaming time, pick a game that's going to get you out of the chair and moving.

2. Add some weights. Donning a pair of wrist weights before your next gaming marathon will build muscle, increase calorie burn, create resistance and, basically, pump you up. No, you're not going to become a body builder, but you will see some definite tone and remember, muscle increases your sedentary calorie burn. So, the more muscle you build, the more fat you burn - even when you're just sitting around.

3. Stand up. Alternate standing up and sitting down while you play. Beat a level? Play the next one standing up. While doing this, you'll work different muscles, give your back a much needed break and, most importantly, get your butt out of that chair.

4. Nix the snacks. Banning snacks from your game area is probably the fastest and best way to shed a few pounds. Leave the soda, chips, and candy at the door and you'll see miracles happen. Admittedly, this tactic may not be "fun" or "easy," but it is a surefire way to 'lighten your load.' If you're hung up on a snack habit, try replacing your fatty chips and sugary pop with plain popcorn and water or juice. Not only will you feel better, but you'll also have more gaming energy.

5. Stretch It Out. Use level breaks and game loading times to do a little bit of stretching or squeeze in a mini-workout. After winning a race, take a second to stand up and move your legs and arms around. Shake it all out, get the blood moving, and you'll feel a lot better. Also take that time to stretch out your arms and neck - which can both get very sore and cramped after a long gaming session. My favorite stretch is a 'palm stretch' - put your hands together (palm-to-palm) then turn them under so the inside of your wrists are about 15 cm below your chin. You'll feel a nice stretch through your hands, wrists, and forearms.

These strategies aren't going to turn you into a fitness nut and they're not going to transform your body from flab to fab in just two weeks, but they will get your blood pumping and they will inject some much needed activity into your gaming lifestyle.

Karaoke Revolution

The late 1990's dance craze inspired a new meaning for the word "revolution". To legions of fun loving movers and groovers, "revolution" was a noun that meant "a gadget offering extreme activity and excitement, and immeasurable enjoyment and relaxation." This form of revolution also provided a great way to keep in shape. This was the Dance Revolution.

Dance Revolution is an addictive, indulgent gizmo that has entranced kids, teenagers and adults alike. Like karaoke, the machine plays a selection of popular songs. The difference is that players move along to follow the dance steps. Even older generations receive hours of enjoyment with this crazy stuff called Dance Revolution.

Japan was first to introduce this unique method of having fun. Dance Revolution creators saw huge profits because of the phenomenal success of their products. With popularity as widespread as television, virtually every household in Japan has its own Dance Revolution set for the family's pleasure and enjoyment.

The Dance Revolution series has been a home and arcade favorite for many years in Japan. There are half a dozen different versions of the game, and a handful of rip-offs and spin-offs have been introduced. Dance Revolution hit US arcades in 2000, showing American kids what they've been missing out on. Like their Japanese counterparts, the American kids and teens tried it and loved it.

People who love singing karaoke tend to envy those who use Dance Revolution. It's as if they are exercising their love of dance and creating their very own revolution. But singers take heart; the latest technology has introduced the Karaoke Revolution, a new gadget that is bringing much joy and excitement.

Karaoke Revolution follows the same concept as basic karaoke, and like its predecessor, was introduced in Japan. The initial product was improved by Japanese developers, making it easier to handle and more comfortable to use. Since then, Karaoke Revolution has enjoyed popularity in a number of countries including the United States. American people have adapted karaoke singing into their leisure lifestyle, partly due to the fact that Karaoke Revolution offers an easy to use option.

Since the karaoke phenomenon first took hold many years ago in the U.S., people have been devising new ideas to bring singing back into the home. In Japan, karaoke (pronounced "kah-rah-oh-kay") has become standard party and picnic fare thanks to portable machines.

To make the karaoke world come to life, Karaoke Revolution uses a screen with eight characters to choose from, each with up to four outfits. Eight different settings provide the perfect backdrop, from a house party to a stadium show. A back up band will be there to play your tune and support you, but it's the on-screen crowd that you really need to please.

Karaoke Revolution uses a scoring system based on rhythm and pitch. If you hit the right tones at the right times, you'll score points. As your song plays, you'll see bars move from the right side of the screen to the left, along with the lyrics. Each bar represents the pitch and length of each word of the song. Higher bars denote a high pitch. If the bar is flat, the tone should be steady. If you see a long and squiggly trail, you've got a serious vocal workout ahead of you. Karaoke Revolution software is available at game retailers, and additional songs can be downloaded for free on the Internet.

Like the name suggests, Karaoke Revolution did create a revolution for the listless karaoke set. The game adds a whole new element of fun and excitement to the favorite pastime. It's a fun hobby and can bring a real sense of personal satisfaction to its users. Put a song in your heart, and try Karaoke Revolution today.

The Future of Music: Music Games

Music labels continue to search for new ways to make money in the face of declining cd sales. Digital track sales, such as those from Apple's iTunes Music Store, were up 27 percent from 2007, breaking the $1 billion mark for the first time in 2008. But, according to Nielsen Soundscan, only 428 million albums (including LPs, CDs, and online albums) were sold - down 14 percent from 2007. As recently as 2005, 619 million albums were sold.  Meanwhile, there are more choices than ever to hear free music online, including MySpace Music, Imeem, Last.fm, and Pandora. It seems clear that music on demand is heading towards the day of free streaming whenever and where-ever people want to listen, and labels and artists will need to find ways to create music experiences for their fans that they are willing to spend money on.

What people have always been willing to pay for is a unique experience where they can engage with an artist's music in ways that cannot be copied for free. For example, fans love to see live music because they cannot replicate that experience at home. Ringtones have been popular for over a decade. People are still willing to pay to join fan clubs because of perks like a closer relationship to the artist.

One of the most promising areas for music revenue growth is combining music with games. There have been over 30 million downloads of songs in Rock Band because fans to want to rock out to their favorite songs in game play. Guitar Hero has had over 40 million downloads and is now a $2B franchise. What is remarkable is that players have shown a willingness to pay for individual songs for use in music games despite them often costing double the price of a normal digital download. In fact, Aerosmith claims to have made more money from licensing its music to Guitar Hero than from any of the group's previous recorded albums. Even digital holdouts, The Beatles, will be releasing a Rock Band version of their own. More music games will be coming soon, including Band Hero (for family gaming) and DJ Hero which offers turntable and record scratching games in a battle for victory in a virtual nightclub.

Other popular music games include Dance Dance Revolution, Jam Legend, and Tap Tap Revolution which is one of the best selling iPhone applications. SingStar is a competitive karaoke video game series which requires players to sing along with music in order to score points. Loudcrowd offers a constant stream of music set to a connected series of music-themed games. Through game play and interaction with others, users can earn or purchase a variety of virtual goods including apparel for their character and music tracks that can be collected for play and competition within the site. Best selling artists Fall Out Boy created an artist themed game on FriendsorEnemies.com. Even lo-fi games like lottery tickets are jumping on the music bandwagon. For Aerosmith's summer tour, fans can win backstage passes, front-row seats, and maybe an extra few million dollars playing Aerosmith branded lottery games.

With the rise of popular casual games on sites like Facebook, Addicting Games, and Miniclip, along with the universal appeal of music, it's a natural fit for the two to come together. Music games give labels a new way to earn revenue that users have shown a willingness to pay for. It seems clear that more will follow.

There are a number of different common video game genres out there, including adventure games, action games, racing games and role playing games. Lately, a new type of video game has been gaining significant popularity: The activity video game. The Nintendo Wii Fit video game, made for the wii consoles, is not the first video game to introduce physical activity as the main focus for completing the game, though it is the first Nintendo wii console video game to promote aerobic and callisthenic exercise. The Wii console is a Nintendo gaming console that has gained popularity because it allows plays to incorporate their entire bodies into much of the game play. Rather than hold a stationary controller with a small handful of buttons, Wii gaming controllers require waving, twisting, turning, slashing and a variety of other motions in order for many of the Wii games to be played.

While the primary goal for the Wii Fit gaming bundle is family enjoyment, it also allows for players of all ages to pay more attention to their health and fitness in a way that is upbeat and non threatening. Rather than focus negatively on one's health and wellness, children and adults are using games like the Wii Fit to address their health in a positive way, literally playing the pounds away.

The Wii Fit is a truly interactive game that works along with a "balance board", a completely new controller that was developed especially for the Wii. This controller sits flat on the floor, and the player stands atop it. The player is able to input personal information regarding height, weight, age and other details, and the Wii Fit game will appraise their general health and suggest a fitness program. The Wii Fit, then, is more than a simple game, but also works as an effective exercise regimen, suggesting fun and family friendly exercise programs that anyone can participate in, no matter how young or old.

The Wii Fit game provides a number of excellent benefits, making it a worthwhile acquisition not only for children and adults who are looking to lose a little bit of weight, but also anyone who is interested in leading a more active lifestyle. Combining aerobic exercise with callisthenic exercise, yoga and many other forms of exercise, the Wii Fit provides a well balanced workout program without taking the fun out of the game. This is an excellent family friendly game for anyone who is serious about their health, or who enjoys being active when playing video games.

The Wii consoles is an excellent new gaming console that is available for purchase with a myriad of different family friendly games. Among the most popular Wii console games are Guitar Hero and Rock Band, simulator games that allow players to play controllers that work like musical instruments. Dance Dance Revolution is another popular Wii game that allows players to dance on a marked pad along with a variety of different popular songs from a myriad of fun genres. The Nintendo Wii Fit consoles is just one of the newest Wii games to hit the market, enticing families to come together and get involved in the gaming experience together.

Video Gaming Is Not a Couch Potato Sport Anymore

Many people think that video games are not a healthy recreational hobby for children, or anyone for that matter. Video games are associated with television binging and being a couch potato. Being sedentary is not a healthy lifestyle. However, the gaming and video game console scene is changing and incorporating a much larger measure of physical activity and exertion more than ever before. Let us consider some gaming examples that support the statement that video gaming is not a couch potato sport anymore. Yes, there is an uprising in the making. The twenty first century has spawned a new wave of gaming concepts. Physical activity and video games are merging, thus making it a bit more appealing to those who are aware and conscious of their health.

Movement and Video Games

There exists certain video games that require more than sitting down and pressing buttons with your hands while your eyes are fastened tight to the television screen. It is becoming a trend these days for children to become couch potatoes. These children stay at home a lot and sit for hours in front of the television or computer. However, because of the stressing of the importance of physical exercise, gaming has been slowly being reinvented with exercise in mind.

For instance, take the video game Dance Dance Revolution. This video game requires a complimenting dance pad where players are required to jump and move and land on certain parts of the dance pad according to what the directions are on the screen to get points to win. This game requires constant motion and movement, so players are not sitting down but rather they are getting some physical activity.

To add to this, the Nintendo Wii uses sensory technology and incorporates it into their new concept of video gaming. All video games require motion and reenactment on the part of the players, and therefore these players are also constantly in motion.

Although just playing video games that require physical movement is not enough to keep a person healthy, it is a great step towards making exercise fun, and curing the debilitating couch potato disease. In a way, video games that require movement is a really great disguise for physical exertion and a great way to get your kids to be a little more active than usual. And it is not just for kids, because although many adults will not admit it, they enjoy video games just as much, if not more, than kids. So take a small but focused step towards getting yourself healthy and substitute your traditional couch potato gaming for video games that require movement.

Thumbthug Mobile Games - Top 10 Iphone Games of 2008

This year has without a doubt been the year of the iPhone and more to the point, the year of the iPhone mobile game. The launch of the Apple (AAPL) iTunes App. Store earlier in the year unleashed a torrent of new games and iPhone applications onto the world. Although most of the early releases tended to be rehashed versions of existing game concepts, adapted for the iPhone experience, as 2008 progressed, our friends the game developers, have started to get to grips with the uniquely new technologies. Which have helped define the iPhone as THE mobile gaming experience to be reckoned with and hopefully with the game developers just getting warming up, who Knows what 2009 will bring!

Oh yeh! and you can make a phone call if you really want.

As the year draws to a close we asked our thumbthug.com mobile gamers to weigh in on what they felt were the best iPhone games of 2008.

10. Tap Tap Dance/Tap Tap Revenge Opinion was pretty much split were tapping was concerned. Both Tap Tap Dance which is a Dance Dance Revolution style game and Tap Tap Revenge which is basically Guitar Hero for the iPhone scored high this year both for playability and just shear down and dirty fun. But if we had to give it either way it would probably go to Tap Tap Revenge because, lets face it, more people want to be lead guitarist in a rock band than a backup dancer for Britney! The online element also helps to add depth to the gaming experience.

9. SimCity EA has done a great job in porting this game over to the iPhone maintaining all of it's engaging and addictive gameplay qualities. The downside is that there are still a few bugs in the system that need to be sorted but EA are working on them and have promised to have them resolved shortly. That said, SimCity may have scored higher this year if it were not for this.

8. Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D Really not much to say about this game apart from it's just a fun driving game that uses the iPhone's accelerometer to steer. If you are a fan of games like Mario Karts on the Wii, you will be a fan of Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D on the iPhone. Just don't try and walk down the street whilst playing it, lampposts are harder than they look.

7. Super Monkey Ball Another just down right fun game that makes great use of the iPhone's accelerometer technology and i would not have expected anything less from SEGA. Just watch-out for the motion sickness!

6. Bejeweled 2 This game seems to become everybody's favorite regardless of what platform it is thrown onto. It just goes to show that great gameplay out weighs great graphics every time.

5. Tetrus Classic, classic and again a CLASSIC!

4. Enigmo Voted "Best iPhone Game" at Apple's WWDC '08 this fun puzzle game also seems to be a favorite of the thumbthug.com crowd. If you are the shoot 'em up type cell phone gamer then this game is probably not for you but if you like a game that is fun, challenging and makes you think then you are an Enigmo!

3. Trism Another game to take full advantage of the iPhone's tilt and touch gameplay, Trism sits somewhere between Tetris and Bejeweled in the game style highraki. Yes Fun, Yes Addictive!

2. Topple If you love to stack you will love Topple, this very addictive "How high can you go?" game is both funny and fun at the same time. Drag, rotate and stack your blocks and when they fall, drag, rotate and stack some more. Oh, and it's FREE which might account for some of it's ranking.

1. Rolando Without a shadow of a double, Rolando is the Thumbthug.com Gamers iPhone game of 2008 and I mean overwhelmingly, we are talking "Obama-esc" landslide. And i have to say that we here in the thumbthug.com office tend to agree. This puzzle game utilizes all aspects of the iPhone's gaming technologies to great effect. Hats off to ngmoco, Inc for creating the iPhone game of 2008.

10 Rare and Expensive Playstation 1 Games

The original Playstation system was one of the best selling consoles of all time but there are many games for the system that are hard to find.  Some of these PS1 games are extremely rare and expensive.  Below is a list of the rarest and most expensive Playstation 1 games and why they are so expensive.

1. Suikoden II - $250
Critically acclaimed and rated one of the best RPG's on the system.  Suikoden 2 sold poorly when initially released though so there are not many copies available relative to the demand.  The high demand and low supply make this the most expensive game on the PS1.

2. Tactics Ogre - $150
Originally released in Japan on the Super Famicom, Tactics Ogre is considered a "masterpiece" according to RPGamer.  The publisher Atlus never printed many copies and the few that were made are now in high demand.

3. Valkyrie Profile - $130
An action RPG, Valkyrie Profile is a hard to find on the Playstation 1.  It has been rereleased on the PSP which helped spark interest in the original game and increase the resale prices.

4. Revelations Persona - $90
Persona has a cult like following in the RPG world.  It does not have a huge fan base, but those fans are diehards and pay top dollar for original copies.  The game has since been reprinted by Atlus which has lowered the resale prices recently but it is still one of the most expensive games for the PS1.

5. Final Fantasy VII - $80
The best selling and most popular game on the Playstation, Final Fantasy VII is not rare at all but very expensive still.  The game sold 9.8 million copies but due to overwhelming demand the game still sells for around $80.  The black label version sells for even more.

6. Dance Dance Revolution Disney Mix - $80
Konami and Disney teamed up to release a DDR game featuring Disney characters and songs.  Disney collectible fans and Dance Dance Revolution fanatics both help boost the price for this game.

7. Lunar Silver Star Story - $65
The game is seen as a transition point for the RPG genre.  It featured video cutscenes, voice acting when these were both rare in video games.  The game was not produced in large quanities but RPG fans love this game because it is fun and historic.

8. Intelligent Qube - $60
IQ is a puzzle game and is very rare.  It is one of the harder to find PS1 games but not as popular as some of the titles appearing earlier in this list which are easier to find.  The puzzles in the game are addicting so many owners of the game won't sell it.

9. Team Buddies - $60
The hardest title to find on this list, Team Buddies is a mix of RPG, shooter, and party game all wrapped into one.  The game can be found online but is near impossible to spot in the wild.

10. Ogre Battle Limited Edition  $55
A rerelease of the Super Nintendo Ogre Battle game.  The PS1 game originally came with a memory card and map so copies with both these items sell for a premium.  The game was only produced in limited quantities and Atlus never did a second printing.

Check your closets and game collections to see if you have any of these Playstation 1 rarities.  You might be holding a gam in your collection as you read this.

The Arcade Games Come Home To Play

If you asked your dad about the video games he used to play back when he was a little kid, he'd tell you about archaic games like Pacman, Pong, Pinball, and maybe even the old classic Space Invaders. And, if you're a genuine member of the generation X, you wouldn't be able to help but scoff or maybe have a good laugh at the sheer antiquity of these titles.

The coin-operated machines of the 1980's are no match for the Arcade games of today. Back then, the gamers had to content themselves with simple, two dimensional games with shoddy graphics. You might give the graphics of Donkey Kong 1 a rating of 1/10 today, but back in the days of your father, they would've given it a whopping 10/10.

Arcades back then were three times more popular than the arcades of today for a single reason. If you were a gamer in the 1980's, you would've had no choice but to go to the Arcades to satisfy your craving for games. Whereas the gamers of today only have to go on-line to one of the free arcade game websites and proceed to spend the whole day playing free arcade games in the comfort of their own homes.

Now, even with all the breath-taking graphics and mind-blowing innovations, Arcades still haven't regained their former popularity. But the modern arcade does have its prodigies. One of which is the Dance Dance Revolution. People instantly became addicted to this novel sensation. The person who pioneered the marriage of dancing and gaming was a genius. Other innovative games followed in the wake of the dance dance revolution, like the baby of music and gaming, DrumMania. This game emulates the feel of playing real drums, and you have to bang the drum at exactly the right time to get a good score. These games appeal to the natural impulse of people to show off, as the best players are applauded in the Arcades. Not even the release of the dance pad, which can be bought from stores and allow you to play in the comfort of the gamers' home could bring down the Arcade Titan that was dance dance revolution. If anything, the gamers who bought these dance pads only used them as training grounds for the real battlefield which could be found in the Arcades.

Indeed, the games back then were every bit as addictive as the games of today. Arcade games are the craze of the youth then and now and you can only wonder what the future has in store for arcade games.

How Video Games Allow Everyone to Be John Travolta?

Ever since the release of Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) in United States in 1998, the way people dance has changed drastically. What use to be years of training can now be achieved through a daily dose of DDR. Rhythm and timing in dance moves are some of the most difficult things to learn in dance. It takes years of practice in a traditional studio, studying under a strict and veteran master teacher to learn moves. It takes a lot of dedication from a young age and some children learn how to stretch correctly fro years before they are allowed to move to advance moves. Of course this is mostly in ballet and the more "serious" disciplines of dance. But with the advent of video games like DDR, most anyone can learn to groove and find there rhythm, in the comfort of the home.

With a little dedication to practice each day, anyone can become the dance king or queen of the home and maybe even the neighborhood. A lot of trained dancers love dancing video games, because it allows them to just have fun and the music is usually something the would not normally be allowed to dance to in theatrical or professional venues. A lot of people have the desire to dance but are too embarrassed to go to club or take classes at a dance studio because of weight or feeling as if they can not do good enough moves. Now these people can dance in the privacy of their home and lose weight and feel better about going out to dance in public.

As a person gets more into the dance games, they will be able to pick harder songs and harder moves to learn, where eventually that person could become quite a good dancer. Some elderly people love it, and in some cases retirement homes have pulled DDR into their facilities for the residents to have a fun game to play. It promotes health of body as well as brain. A huge bonus, besides the obvious health benefits, is it builds coordination and self-esteem in many of the residents. This is also true in very young children. Dancing in general promotes coordination, which is why most health professionals and psychologist believe dancing is great for developing body.

Further studies state that dancing the same amount of time as walking burns even more calories, allowing for quicker weight loss. The benefits are greater than the risk when it comes to dancing, and having a dancing video game, such as Dance Dance Revolution in your home adds more benefit. Another benefit of having a dancing game is at parties. When lots of people are involved it creates a fun atmosphere where everyone can join in no matter their experience level. Even if you are a beginner you can learn, because the video game teaches you how to dance and in what sequence to step. The technology of Dance Dance Revolution has itself revolutionized how people feel about themselves while dancing to their favorite beats.
